MY LOVE-HATE RELATIONSHIP WITH THE ANGRY EMOJI

I never used to use the Angry emoji. I’d felt that anger was a damaging emotion, nonproductive, unhealthy.

Until recently.

Now, I find myself emoji-ing anger at so many posts on social media.

Not because I am angered by the poster, but because I am angered by the horrific facts and news they share.

In fact, I appreciate when people post REAL news, actual facts, and their thoughts about it. (As long as it’s not being sensationalized, which also happens too often, but I digress.)

I have gotten to the point that, now, I feel that anger is a productive emotion. Even healthy.

Because I am angry.

We all should be.

My anger is driving me to take action.

As Heather Cox Richardson said in the close of her wonderful keynote at the Old North Church in Boston last night: “And once in a great while, someone will light a lantern—or even two—that will shine forth for democratic principles that are under siege, and set the world ablaze.”

We can each be a lantern.

We won’t know which of our lanterns will be the one to move the needle, so we must all rise up as one.

Together, we can make a difference!

Now, off to a “No Kings” rally. Two hundred fifty years after the OG.

No kings. And no jesters. No fake facts. And no fascist ideology. No. No. No.

Be angry.
